Making My Art Accessible
I had hesitated for a long while on whether or not to turn my fine art pieces into a craft object such as a purse. It was a bit of a taboo in the art department to turn your art into a craft or functional item. However I am a recent grad who needs to move some art. I thought about it for a long time and decided I loved those who loved my art and wanted to make my paintings more accessible to those who really wanted to enjoy it. sure I could have kept my paintings high priced and faught to get them in a stuffy gallery and waited for the right buyer (while loosing half my sales to the gallery itself) but I felt that would have been very silly. Why do I care if my work is titled "fine art" or not. I want to sell my art to those who enjoy it as much as I do. THAT IS WHY I MAKE ART. I enjoy making art. I want others to enjoy it too. I know not everyone can afford a painting of mine so I moved to the sewing table and got cooking!
I began to take my acrylic paintings to fabric and worked just as I did on the canvas. I made a simple structure and once painted got to the sewing machine and created my new works of art. I could make many of these at a cheaper price which means I now could make my art more accecible to thse who cant purchase the larger paintings. I still get my joy of painting while I watch other enjoy them as well. soon I will make more variations and sizes but first I must tackle the sewing machine.
